Your horoscope is a map of the heavens at the time of your birth. It is an accurate picture of the planets, the sun and the moon and their placements, as well as several other points that are either mathematically calculated or determined by their relationship to the other factors in the horoscope. At the time of your birth, each of the planets, including the sun and moon, was in a certain position in relation to the signs of the zodiac. The sign the sun was occupying at the time of your birth is your sun sign and indicates your basic psychological type.
In addition to your Sun sign, the Moon’s position at the time of your birth plays a significant role in shaping your emotional nature, instincts and subconscious reactions. Together, the Sun and Moon signs form the foundation of your astrological profile.

Astrological Houses
There are 12 astrological houses in an astrology birth chart and each represents a different part of your life or challenges that you may face. The first house is located at the 9 o’clock position, with the rest arranged counter-clockwise on the zodiac wheel.
Astrological Elements
The elemental nature of the zodiac signs stems from ancient Greek philosophers who believed that everything in the universe was made up of one or more of the four basic elements: fire, earth, air and water. Each element contains three zodiac signs and these signs are known as triplicities. The astrological elements are indications of energies and personality types. The elements have been divided into two groups—active and passive. Fire and Air signs are considered active. Water and Earth signs are considered passive.
Astrological Planets
In Western astrology, the location and movements of the planets, sun and moon are major influences of the traits associated with the zodiac signs. Each planet rules a specific zodiac sign and influences different aspects of your personality and life.
Astrological Moon Phases
In astrology, the moon phases are the relationships of the Sun/Moon at the time of an individual’s birth. There are eight moon phases in a complete cycle. Knowing the moon phase adds another aspect to describe a person’s unique and multifaceted personality, in particular, emotions, intimacy and secret desires.
Note: a waxing moon is getting bigger; a waning moon is getting smaller. A Void of Course moon is when the moon transitions between signs—a time when decisions may be difficult.
Astrological Modalities
In each of the three astrological modalities or modes—cardinal, fixed and mutable—there are four zodiac signs. These four-sign groups are known as quadruplicities. The signs that are grouped together in each mode share the same essential and key qualities; however, they also have many individual differences.
Astrological Dualities and Polarities
Dualities and polarities are groupings of zodiac signs by their yin and yang qualities and opposite characteristics.
Pet Zodiac
Just like humans, our beloved pets are influenced by the stars! Each zodiac sign bestows unique personality traits upon our furry friends. Whether your pet is a fiery Aries or a dreamy Pisces, understanding their astrological sign can help you better connect with your animal companion.
Chinese Astrology
Chinese astrology is based on a twelve-year cycle, with each year represented by an animal sign. The animals, in order, are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. The animal sign under which you are born is believed to influence your personality traits and destiny.
According to Chinese legend, the Jade Emperor summoned all the animals to a great race. The order in which they finished determined their place in the zodiac cycle. The clever Rat rode on the Ox’s back and jumped off at the last moment to finish first, which is why the Rat is the first sign in the Chinese zodiac.
In addition to the animal signs, Chinese astrology incorporates the five elements—Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water—which cycle through every sixty years, creating a more nuanced astrological profile. Each element brings its own qualities and modifies the characteristics of the animal sign.
The concept of Yin and Yang also plays a vital role in Chinese astrology. Each animal sign is associated with either Yin (passive, receptive) or Yang (active, assertive) energy, adding yet another layer of complexity to this ancient system of divination.

Vedic Astrology
Vedic astrology, also known as Jyotish (meaning “science of light”), is the traditional Hindu system of astrology that originated in ancient India. Unlike Western astrology, which uses the tropical zodiac based on the seasons, Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, which is based on the actual positions of the constellations in the sky. Due to the precession of the equinoxes, there is currently about a 24-degree difference between the two systems, which means your Vedic sun sign may differ from your Western sun sign.
The 27 Nakshatras
A unique feature of Vedic astrology is the system of 27 Nakshatras (lunar mansions). These are divisions of the sky that the Moon passes through during its monthly cycle. Each Nakshatra spans 13°20’ of the zodiac and has its own ruling deity, symbol and planetary ruler. The Nakshatras add a deeper layer of personality analysis beyond the sun and moon signs.
