Reading the Life Line

The life line is one of the three major lines in palmistry. It curves around the base of the thumb, starting between the thumb and index finger and arcing toward the wrist.

Common Misconceptions

Despite popular belief, the life line does NOT indicate how long you will live. A short life line does not mean a short life. Instead, it reveals information about:

  • General vitality and energy
  • Major life changes and transitions
  • Physical health tendencies
  • Quality of life experiences

Life Line Characteristics

Length

Long - Strong vitality, resilience
Short - May indicate a more cautious nature

Depth

Deep - Strong physical constitution, zest for life
Shallow - May be easily influenced, less physical stamina

Curve

Wide curve - Enthusiastic, warm personality
Close to thumb - More reserved, careful with energy

Markings on the Life Line

  • Breaks - Major life changes or transitions
  • Chains - Periods of stress or health issues
  • Islands - Challenges or illnesses
  • Crosses - Significant events
  • Stars - Impactful moments

Timing on the Life Line

The life line can be used for timing events. The beginning (near index finger) represents youth, and the line progresses toward the wrist as you age.
